Alan Pardew reveals Newcastle's secret weapon against Sunderland

The Magpies boss was speaking ahead of Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby.

Alan Pardew admits he will be looking to former Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback for inside knowledge when Newcastle United take on the Black Cats on Sunday afternoon.

Gus Poyet's Sunderland side will travel to St James' Park looking to continue their recent trend of success against Newcastle.

But Poyet's men will run into a familiar face in Colback, who traded Sunderland for Newcastle over the summer.

And Pardew says he has 'picked the brains' of the midfielder ahead of the fiercely anticipated Premier League clash.

“I had a chat with Jack about what he thought Sunderland would do and how they approach the game,” Pardew is quoted as saying by the Shields Gazette.

“I picked his brains, which is sensible. He is very calm, and told me what they possibly might do, which I’m not going to tell you.

“The way he played on those big occasions [previous Tyne-Wear derbies] told me a lot about the player. When I like a player and he performs in the big games it ticks a lot of boxes for me.”
