Paul Peschisolido predicts Tottenham Hotspur v Sheffield United and Liverpool v Chelsea

Sheffield United

Paul Peschisolido looks ahead to the League Cup semi-final ties between Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield United, and Liverpool and Chelsea.

Paul Peschisolido has backed Sheffield United to get the better of Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals of the League Cup.

While the Blades defeated Southampton 1-0 at home in the quarter-finals, Spurs hammered fellow Premier League outfit Newcastle United 4-0 at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham will be many football followers’ favourites to win the tie, but former United striker Peschisolido claims that the Blades can stage an upset.

"I think Sheffield United will be happy with Spurs and I think Spurs will be equally happy with them,” the 43-year-old told Sky Sports.

”They did wonderfully well in the FA Cup last season and they will not be daunted by it and they will go into the game in extremely confident mood.

"Nigel Clough has got the team playing ever so well in the cup competitions. I think he has lost only three out of 16 cup ties there so he has a tremendous record. Being my old club, I hope they go on and earn themselves a place in the final.”

In the other semi-final tie Liverpool will take on Chelsea, and Peschisolido has a clear favourite.

“Chelsea are playing ever so well and they are strong in every department,” he said. “The back four are extremely resilient, they are scoring goals for fun with Diego Costa up front so I would have to say they are favourites.”

Chelsea will indeed be many football followers’ favourites and United do the have capability to upset Tottenham, but it is too early to predict as these are cup games.

Things could change between now and January. If Liverpool start to pick up points and gain some momentum, then they could stun Chelsea.

As for United, the Blades will know that they will have nothing to lose against Tottenham. And that could be crucial in the tie.
