Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal on the praise Sir Alex Ferguson has given him

Louis Van Gaal

The United boss wants perfection from his players, not just results.

One of the biggest compliments of the recent run of form for Louis van Gaal would have to be the comparisons he is getting to legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United are not playing great in all their games, but despite that they are on an excellent winning streak, grinding out the results and relying on David De Gea in games such as the ones v Stoke, Southampton and Liverpool.

But in light of those performances he has demanded more from his Manchester United players throughout the past two months. He wants to see an uptake in the performance from his players to go alongside the results.

But despite his unhappiness at the results, Sir Alex has been giving him plenty of encouragement.

In his press conference this week he made it clear that he has been commended by Sir Alex for the team's results, but that he does not believe the result is the be all and end all:

"I'm not only focused on results, although of course that's the main thing. When I speak with Sir Alex he says: 'There's no problem - you've won'.

"But for me it's also the performance, because when you perform well you win more. That's what I want to show to the fans, and the players want to show that, and the guarantee of wins is much bigger when we perform better.

"The game against Hull was a good game - we dominated 90 minutes, and I want to see more games like that. There are too few games where we are dominating 90 minutes."

So Van Gaal disagrees with Sir Alex, we doubt David Moyes would have made that public.
