Outspoken Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has labelled Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez as inconsistent.
The Chilean international traded Barcelona for North London during the summer for a reported £35 million fee following an excellent World Cup campaign.
Despite having his doubters in Spain, Sanchez has taken to life in the Premier League with a bang as he leads the club’s scoring charts with nine goals in 14 starts.
Such is his influence on the side that many observers have begun to label the Gunners as a ‘one-man team’. With the 26-year-old also leading the assists charts, who could blame them?
Sanchez has simply been phenomenal this season, but he has not done enough to warrant the praise from the controversial Barton, who calls the Emirates idol inconsistent.
“I said he was inconsistent, from what I saw for Udinese and Barcelona. You see him now, great at home against a smaller side but disappears against Manchester United," he told Forever Sports magazine.
While ‘inconsistent’ is a rather harsh term to label a player who has contributed to 14 goals in 14 Premier League starts, the former Newcastle United man believes that Sanchez can do better against the top teams.
Against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Chelsea earlier this season, the goal-scoring attacker failed to find the net and the Gunners suffered as a result.
However, he has proven in the past that he can do it on the big stage – scoring against Brazil at the World Cup - plus that unforgettable chip during Barcelona’s El Clasico victory over Real Madrid last season.
