The Frenchman has been linked with a sensational January move to Liverpool.
Karim Benzema: the stuff of dreams for Liverpool fans.
What better way to get over the wasteful (even if he comes good) £16 million signing of Mario Balotelli in the summer than by signing one of the world's best strikers in January?
According to the Daily Express, that prospect is a reality...
But not according to Guillem Balague, a Spanish journalist who works for a number of outlets, including Sky Sports.
When it comes to big transfers in Spain, Balague is one of the main authorities on transfer rumours and he believes it is 'totally impossible' that Benzema will leave Real Madrid in January.
Totally impossible that Benzema leaves Madrid in January. Essential to the team and a president favourite. The club has confirmed that too— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) December 19, 2014
The 27-year-old, then, will have to remain the stuff of dreams for the Reds, unless Liverpool can defy all odds and reasonable expectations and somehow prise the Real Madrid star away from Spain.
For now, Liverpool will have to make do with Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini (who is never used...) until Daniel Sturridge returns to fitness.
Brendan Rodgers, however, does appear to have finally found a creative solution: Raheem Sterling as a centre-forward.
