Southampton supporters have been left disappointed by the news that Jay Rodriguez has suffered a set-back on his return from injury.

Rodriguez has been ruled out for the entirety of the campaign so far with a long-term knee injury, but his recovery is still some way off.

Initially estimates suggested that the 25-year-old could be back by the new-year, but these seem optimistic now with the former Burnley man not expected to make his return until February at the earliest.

It is a major blow to Southampton as Rodriguez remains one of their key players. The powerful forward scored 15 Premier League goals last season and they have missed his threat this time around.

More cynical fans have looked at the update and suggested their lack of surprise by it, though. Rodriguez has been heavily linked with a move away from St. Mary's, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly interested, but his injury now keeps him out for the entirety of the upcoming transfer window, making a switch unlikely.

It is one positive to come out of the news, but Southampton fans will be hoping that Rodriguez is back to full-fitness soon enough and that he suffers no further set-backs on his long-road to recovery.
