Paul Merson has backed Tottenham Hotspur to win this weekend, after a succession of poor tips.
There has only been one thing predictable about Paul Merson's predictions in recent weeks.
Throughout the last month the outspoken pundit has backed Tottenham Hotspur to lose, and been proven wrong on almost every occasion.
As a former Arsenal star you could almost think he was willing them to lose, but this weekend he has changed his approach.
The ex-pro turned pundit has backed Spurs for a comprehensive victory at home to Burnley, a 3-0 Tottenham win.
He told SkySports: "Believe it or not, I fancy Tottenham to win. I’ve come to a conclusion: every time I tip Spurs they lose and every time I say they’ll get beat they win, but I do fancy them this week.
"They’ve had two great results this week and they’ve hit a bit of a run – barring the Chelsea result.
"Harry Kane is a player I like, his movement is good and his confidence is high. He’s a good build and I’d be surprised if he and Spurs didn’t cause Burnley a lot of problems."
Perhaps he is trying reverse psychology, or he simply does actually believe this time Tottenham will pull off a result.
Either way the omens aren't great for Spurs. Their home record in the Premier League against relegation-threatened teams like Burnley has seen them slip up in recent times, and now Merson backing them to win too, suggests it may not be as easy as anybody may like.
