Robin van Persie has eventually paid tribute to his former Arsenal teammate Thierry Henry.
The Arsenal legend announced his retirement on Monday morning, with countless former teammates and opponents hailing his talent and class, but Van Persie had not been one of them.
The Dutchman redressed this on Tuesday evening, sending Henry a message on Twitter describing it as an honour to have played alongside him.
They did so as recently as 2012 when Henry returned to the club on loan from New York Red Bulls, scoring in the same game in the 2-1 demolition of Blackburn.
Van Persie was in the same side as Henry when the Frenchman scored his last ever goal for the club, a winner away to Sunderland, and played together in his final match, a loss away to AC Milan.
One of the most memorable games the pair played together was the 2-1 comeback home win against Manchester United at the Emirates, in which both scored late goals. Van Persie was sold to the Red Devils in the summer of 2012.
