Spanish website AS has offered up a reason as to why Lucas Silva has overlooked an offer to join Arsenal.
The Gunners are reported to have made a €15 million offer for the player, exactly what Cruzeiro have asked for, yet they haven’t been successful in tempting Silva to talk over a deal.
Real Madrid are trying to make a play to sign him and have made an offer, which is lower than Arsenal’s but AS has suggested the situation is similar to why Manchester United didn’t sign Gareth Bale two summers ago.
“English side, Arsenal meanwhile have confirmed an offer of 15 million euro but Silva is holding out for an increased offer from Madrid as his preferred option,” reports AS.
United made a much higher bid than Real Madrid for Bale, but the Welshman had his heart set on Real Madrid and this appears to be the same with Silva.
It shouldn’t be considered a major blow to Arsenal because Silva is reportedly a target to replace Sami Khedira, arguably a better midfield option for the Gunners as they seek January reinforcements.
For once, it’s not a case of Arsene Wenger unwilling to spend the money, but the player’s stubbornness to get his desired move.
