On the 18th December 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 18th December 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 18th December 2013…

He'll Costa too much

This time last year it was reported in the Daily Mail that Arsenal were scouting Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa. The Brazilian-Spaniard had been banging in the goals for the Spanish club and had a release clause of £32 million in his contract.

But Arsenal apparently did not want to meet his release clause, considering it too pricey. In the end that proved a major stumbling block to any prolonged attempt to sign Costa and Arsenal eventually dropped out of the running completely.

Chelsea however did snap him up, partnered him with former Gunner Cesc Fabregas and the results have been stunning.

Ouch!

AVB-eeved off

A year ago today, and not long after his sacking by Tottenham Hotspur, the Mail were revealing a few facts about Andre Villas-Boas time at Tottenham.

They revealed that he did not get many of the players he wanted, such as David Villa, Willian, Hulk and Joao Mourinho - but did end up with a bunch of players he did not feel fitted his mould.

The players in question were reportedly Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen, Nacer Chadli and Vlad Chiriches.

A year down the line and he has as much as confirmed this fact to Portuguese television this week.
