Newcastle United defender Massadio Haidara has said that he and his teammates will look after Jak Alnwick.
The 21-year-old goalkeeper, who has only recently been featuring in the Magpies’ first team, played a key role in the side’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Wednesday.
Alnwick failed to collect a corner from Christian Eriksen’s corner in the 18th minute, and Nabil Bentaleb tucked in from close range.
Newcastle conceded three more goals in the second half to lose the League Cup quarter-final tie 4-0, with Alnwick injuring his shoulder as well.
Haidara has come to the defence of his teammate and told Newcastle’s official website: “Everybody is looking after Jak.
"He is young and has only played three games in the first team, so you cannot say something to him because he is young and he will learn from this.
"He is a good player for the future. The step he has made (from the under-21s) is big and we need to help him if he is to progress.”
Newcastle are currently eighth in the league table with 23 points from 16 matches, seven points behind fourth-placed West Ham United.
