Liverpool player ratings v Bournemouth: Sterling and Markovic shine in important win

Raheem Sterling

Liverpool secured a much needed win in the League Cup against Bournemouth last night.

Liverpool secured a much needed win against Bournemouth in the League Cup last night, which Brendan Rodgers will hope gets the team moving in the right direction.

Liverpool have been suffering in recent weeks but they had far too much quality for the Championship leaders last night, with their performance defined by a 51 pass move, which resulted in a Raheem Sterling goal.

Here are our player ratings for Liverpool’s players.

Jones – 6

Didn’t have much to do throughout the game. Maybe could have done more with Bournemouth’s goal.

Toure – 6

He’s at his best when he’s tucked in centrally and not even remotely exposed to a quick winger.

Skrtel – 7

Too much quality for the Bournemouth attack. He’ll be taking several players out of his pocket this morning.

Lovren – 7

Played well and looked comfortable. The result will do his confidence some good.

Henderson – 8

Played in a different position to normal but was solid at right wing back and offered plenty when Liverpool were on the front foot.

Gerrard – 7

Comfortable. His quality and experience was obvious. Controlled the pace of Liverpool’s play.

Coutinho – 7

Bustled forward with plenty of energy and excitement. Will be frustrated he wasn’t a bit more precise in the final third.

Lucas – 6

Sat as the rock in Liverpool’s midfield which allowed the more creative players to rotate.

Lallana – 7

Plenty of quality. Bournemouth players looked way off the pace when they tried to get close to him.

Markovic – 8

Superb down the left hand side. Grabbed a goal and has done his claim for a regular place no harm at all.

Sterling – 8

Embraced the responsibility of leading the attack on his own. His pace made Bournemouth petrified to move their defensive line forward.
