Sheffield United star Jamie Murphy is confident that his side can beat Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals of the League Cup.
The Blades secured a clash with the North London giants after seeing off Southampton earlier this week and Murphy is confident of beating Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
“We’re in the semi-finals of the League Cup so we were always going to be drawn against a good team, but I’m sure Spurs won’t fancy coming to Bramall Lane with our record against top-flight teams,” he told the Sheffield Star.
“Hopefully in the home leg, we can put on another good performance - with the crowd behind us, spurring us on. When we go away, who knows what can happen?.”
Tottenham will go into the game as heavy favourites and would have selected the Blades if they were given the choice before the draw earlier this week.
Murphy is within his rights to be confident ahead of the game, but Spurs have played well away from home against some very difficult teams in the Premier League, which will give them confidence heading into the clash.
They have also made a handy habit of scoring late away from home and will back themselves to cash in when the sides also meet at White Hart Lane.
“Don’t get me wrong, we’re under no illusions that it’ll be a really difficult test. But we won’t go into it with any fear and we’ll be looking forward to it.”
Murphy’s comments come after his Sheffield United teammate Ben Davies claimed that Spurs were the most beatable team for his side out of the three.
Things should spice up nicely as the tie draws closer after Christmas and New Year, if United’s players continue to show such open and confidence against a side fighting for a top four place in England’s top flight.
