Markovic put in an impressive display which showed signs of the Serbian settling into life at Liverpool after his summer move from Benfica.
The 20-year-old Serbian international has yet to set the world alight since making the £20 million move switch from Benfica in the summer, but last night showed some flashes of why they splashed the cash to land such a promising talent.
There have been occasions this season when he hasn't tracked back and helped out with the defensive work, or had a profound effect in the final third, but with recent cameos he has suggested there is potentially a very good player in there.
Last night was his best performance to date as he was heavily involved in the first two goals for the Reds, opening his account for the club with a cool finish to give the Reds a two-goal cushion.
He looked willing to take on players, and though he looks one of the more composed and confident players on the field, there were times when he was a bit naive, especially when playing out from defensive positions - though at other times it looked intelligent. More of the latter could come with age.
Liverpool fans in general seemed happy with the performance from Markovic, but there were several that questioned whether he should be playing the role of left wing-back, or in a more advanced position.
Here is what a few had to say on twitter:
Markovic HAS to start against Arsenal in a more advanced (natural) role.— Ashley (@lfcashleylfc) December 17, 2014

Good performance, good win. Markovic had his best game, definitely wouldn't play him wing back against Arsenal though.— Stephen Williams (@Stevew8) December 17, 2014
Markovic had a great game, he needs to start more games now. It's took him while to settle in but he's gonna be a talent in no time— Jamie (@Bantertelli) December 17, 2014
Would like to eventually see Markovic in the front 3 though. Sturridge will hopefully add to that attack soon as well.— Jack Sear (@JackSear) December 18, 2014
