Kolo Toure hails playmaker as the Reds' best player this season

Toure has been impressed with the contribution that Adam Lallana has made since arriving from Southampton.

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has been talking about the talent within the Reds' squad and has revealed who he regards as the best player within the side this season, and it's one of the summer signings brought into the club.

Adam Lallana was the second player to sign for the Reds in the summer for a fee of around £25 million from Southampton, and the experienced centre-back has liked what he has seen from the 26-year-old.

Toure told the Liverpool website after their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth to book their place in the semi-finals of the League Cup: "For me, Adam has been the best player in this Liverpool team this year. Definitely."

Lallana seems to be one of the signings who has gone down well amongst Liverpool fans this season, whose transfers in the summer have come in for a lot of criticism - and has struck twice for his new club since joining, whilst impressing last night.

After missing the first few games of the season with injury, Lallana seems to have been getting stronger with every game, though lately has been struggling with a rib problem.

Toure's comments are only likely to add weight to the argument that Lallana should be amongst the regular starters. His trickery and intelligence when he has played so far this season have been one of the brighter aspects of his play that have given defenders cause for concern.

Another player who stood out last night was Lazar Markovic who opened his account for the Reds. Markovic joined for £20 million in the summer from Benfica, and Toure has delighted to see the Serb get off the mark.

He added: "Since he came here, he hasn't had a lot of chances to play but he's shown great character and worked hard in training. He is a great boy, works hard, is very quick and technically is very, very good."
