Cech thinks current Chelsea side could be best ever

Chelsea's long-serving goalkeeper believes the current side has the potential to be the best ever.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech believes this current side could be the best in the club's history.

Chelsea are the side who are amongst the favourites to win this season's Champions League, three points clear at the top of the Premier League and in the semi-finals of the League Cup against Liverpool.

Cech told their website: "It’s a team that played together last season with some additions. For the manager it’s an advantage to have a team in the second season as he got to know the team last season and everybody could settle in with the way we want to play.

"I think all the people that have come in this season have been doing remarkably well. Hopefully we all stay fit and the manager can use the whole squad because in this busy period you need everybody. This team has the potential and the quality to be one of the best in Chelsea’s history - if it can prove it by winning trophies."

A lot has been said that the Chelsea side just needed a few additions from last season in order for them to take the step to be a real force a win the big prizes this season.

The overhaul of the strikers, a quality addition to the midfield in Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis offering another full-back option seems to be serving the Blues well so far this term. Cech himself, has been on the bench for much of the campaign after Thibaut Courtois returned from a very successful loan spell at Atletico Madrid, but Cech has been seeing some game time this season, and anticipates players will be rotated.

Within his interview, he has probably highlighted where Liverpool and Tottenham have gone wrong in recent years with an overhaul of their squads, bringing in so many faces at once. Cech alludes to the fact that so many players have already been at Stamford Bridge for a season, and are able to kick on this campaign with the additions they have made.
