European football expert Jan Aage Fjortoft says it wouldn’t be a great Christmas present for Manchester United fans if they signed Wesley Sneijder from Galatasaray.
The Dutch midfielder has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for years, with speculation Louis van Gaal could draft him in for the second half of the season.
There is competition for Sneijder’s signature but United are well placed to offer him a competitive contract and have the obvious attraction of van Gaal, who has coached the midfielder at international level with the Netherlands.
Central midfielder isn’t an area where United are short of options although there is a theory that the side could use a high profile and authoritative player to pull the strings in the middle of the team.
Sneijder certainly has the experience and the talent to be effective at United, but it’s debatable whether they will go all out and tempt him away from Turkey over the course of the winter.
