The Scotland international is set to remain at Everton until 2019.
When Rangers went bust in 2012 one of the top players targeted by many a club was their industrious attacker Steven Naismith.
The Scottish international was approached by several teams but eventually decided that a move to Everton under David Moyes was the best option for his career.
However there is no doubt that he struggled early on in his career and for much of his first-season he was a derided player by the Everton fans.
But under Roberto Martinez he has been a revelation. His tireless work-rate is essential to the pressing side of Martinez's philosophy and his knack for knowing where the goal is is certainly a massive help for Everton.
His importance to the Everton team was never more evident than his performance against QPR on Monday Night. He had been out of action with an injury and Everton had struggled in his absence.
But his hustle and bustle was a major boost to the team and he even grabbed himself the third Everton goal in a 3-1 win.
Now he has signed a new deal until 2019. Roberto Martinez believes he is currently playing the best football of his career and was happy to reward him with a three-year extension.
And the majority of Everton fans were also pleased to hear the news. He may pull off the odd dodgy touch and at times frustrate, but one thing guaranteed from Naismith in every game is 100 per cent effort. Sometimes that is all the fans want to see.
Here is some of the best reaction from Twitter to Naismith's new deal at Everton...
