As bad as Kaboul? The Fazio stat that will worry Tottenham fans

The centre-back has encouraged in patches but one particular statistic highlights the need for consistency.

Federico Fazio's start to his Tottenham Hotspur career has been patchy - but, on balance, encouraging.

The centre-back has had his off-days, when supporters of the north London side have almost been at his throat in frustration.

But Fazio has looked good in patches, while the bottom line is: he has now overtaken skipper Younes Kaboul in the pecking order.

One statistic, however, shows just how much the Argentine needs to concentrate to keep his consistency.

Errors Leading To A ShotAppearancesMinutes Played
Federico Fazio 2 7 607
Younes Kaboul 2 11 990
Eric Dier 1 12 850
Hugo Lloris 1 16 1,440
Ryan Mason 1 11 894
Kyle Naughton 1 5 326

Indeed, as Opta stats show, Fazio has committed the joint-most errors leading to a shot of any Spurs player in the Premier League.

Granted, the 27-year-old has only made two - but it still tops the list, alongside who else but Kaboul himself. The table shows every Tottenham star to have committed an error leading to a shot this season. The fact that they are so rare suggests how costly it can sometimes be to make one at all.

Fazio, though, has erred on as many occasions as the Frenchman in far less game time. If he is to replace the captain and start alongside Jan Vertonghen in the long term, then, the Tottenham man clearly needs to cut the mistakes out.
