Arsenal legend Martin Keown has said that Tottenham Hotspur great Glenn Hoddle is the most skilful manager he has worked with.
Hoddle is one of few footballing figures who have succeeded both as a player and a manager.
The 57-year-old is one of the greatest players in Tottenham history, and also played for AS Monaco and Chelsea.
The Englishman, who is currently working as a first-team coach at Queens Park Rangers, has also managed the likes of Spurs, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Hoddle was in charge of England from 1996 to 1999, and it is during this time that Keown played under him.
“Easy one,” Keown told The Daily Mail when asked who is the most skilful manager he has come across. “Glenn Hoddle. When we met up with England he would encourage us to have a keepy-uppy session before we got on the bus but it was only the most technically accomplished players.
“He would fire it at people and I joined in once – he said my touch was better than he ever thought! But for some players that is intimidating – seeing a manager more technically gifted than the players.
“I'm not sure he realised that sometimes that caused a bit of fear. But I wanted to join in every time – I wanted to prove I had a good touch. It helped that we always worked on that technique at Arsenal.”
