United morning news: Van Gaal confused by award; FA Cup opponent’s pride

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted he is confused following his Dutch Coach of the Year award.

The former Netherlands coach was given the award earlier this week but in quotes published by Goal.com he said, “I’m standing here with mixed feelings.

“We ended in third place while there are many Olympic champions and world champions here tonight. Maybe I’ve won this award because of the media.”

Van Gaal arrived at United shortly after guiding his national team to third-place in the World Cup and he is now looking to go a couple of places better with his club, who are looking very much on the up.

In other news, Yeovil manager Gary Johnson has revealed his pride after his side defeated Accrington Stanley and set up a FA Cup third-round tie against United.

Speaking to BBC Radio Somerset, Johnson said, “I’m always so proud of the club when we come through a game like this.

“I knew what this meant to the club, me, my family, our directors, supporters and my management team.”

United and Yeovil go head-to-head on Sunday January 4.
