Birmingham City are reportedly confident of securing the future of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool linked youngster Demarai Gray.
Reports yesterday suggested that Birmingham had already made the offer to the teenage winger, as he mulls over whether to extend his deal at the Championship club beyond 2016.
The obvious attraction of a move to Tottenham or Liverpool is the chance to play in the Premier League and earn a higher contract.
However, Birmingham is a big football club and a place where Gray is more likely to play first team games, which will aid him as he looks to develop into a more all-round complete player.
It’s understandable why panic bells may start going off at Birmingham, with an offer reportedly having been made, but they, and Gray, are under no pressure to resolve the issue quickly.
The situation would be different if his current deal expired this summer as opposed to next because in that instance, Birmingham may have been forced into doing a January deal to try and net a fee for him.
As far as Spurs and Liverpool are concerned, all they can do is try and present why they are a better proposition for his future.
The matter is out of their hands if he signs a new deal but if January 1 comes along and he’s still not put pen to paper, that’s when they can make some offers and start putting a little pressure on the Championship club.
However, even then Birmingham would more than likely be confident about keeping him and wouldn’t have to accept any deal unless it was of a high value which made sense for the club.
