Fly away on Wenger Airways

A year ago today and Thierry Henry was discussing how he came to play for Arsenal. He was discussing the chance meeting with Arsene Wenger, a former coach of his at AS Monaco, on a flight from Turin to Paris, which led to him arriving at Arsenal and becoming perhaps their greatest ever player.

"After the game, the Juve game at the end of the season I went back to Paris. And who was on the plane....the boss [Arsene Wenger] was on the plane. And that's when I told him that I would love to join Arsenal. And after it, that's what happened."

Now a year on Henry has just recently retired from professional football, as an Arsenal legend.

Now he has his sights set on coaching his beloved Arsenal, but not yet.

The grumpy one

Jose Mourinho was discussing his Chelsea team, after they were dumped out of the League Cup against Sunderland. They lost 2-1 after extra-time and he

"I don’t want to become more defensive, but maybe the way to rectify the problem is to have a different approach,’ said the Chelsea manager. ‘If I want to win 1-0, then I can, because it is the easiest thing in football.

"In this moment every game we don’t kill we are in trouble and sometimes we lose matches that we shouldn’t."

A year on and Chelsea did kill the game in a League Cup tie, beating Derby County 3-1 yesterday to secure a victory.
