Former Arsenal and Sunderland star Niall Quinn has underlined the pressure Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is under to win tonight’s match.
Liverpool will take on Championship club Bournemouth away from home in the quarter-finals of the League Cup this evening.
The Reds are way back in 11th in the league table, while Bournemouth are currently at the top of the Championship standings.
A win for the hosts will not come as a huge surprise, but Quinn believes that Liverpool need to emerge victorious tonight.
“Brendan Rodgers needs this result, if he plays a weakened team and loses it’s another tag to the questioning that the outside world are asking about him,” the 48-year-old told Sky Sports.
“People are already talking about his transfers not working, the dressing room not being spot on, the injuries, there are a lot of things to ask about Liverpool right now and if they get knocked out by a Championship team in the quarter-finals because he has played a weakened team it will raise bigger questions.”
A win for Liverpool is not going to drastically change the mood among the fans, but a defeat could be devastating for Rodgers.
