Dutchman can fill the hole left by Lallana and propel Saints into Europe

Adam Lallana

Wesley Sneijder is set for a move away from Galatasaray in January and a move to Southampton could allow them to finish in a European place.

Southampton have caught everyone by surprise this season, and Ronald Koeman should be commended for doing superb job. Their squad was decimated in the summer with key players such as Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, and Adam Lallana all departing. Replacements have settled in but The Saints still don't have a like for like replacement for Lallana.

Southampton as well as Manchester United have been linked with a move for Dutch international Wesley Sneijder in January. The midfielder has been in Turkey since January 2013 but is reportedly looking to move on. Galatasaray are  finished fourth in their Champions League group meaning no more European football for them this season.

A move to Manchester United to link up with Louis Van Gaal would obviously be an attractive proposition for Sneijder. Their recent form has shown that they should be playing Champions League football once again next season. Southampton can't promise the same, but if Sneijder was to sign for Koeman's side then he could well give them a chance of a top four finish.

Southampton along with West Ham United have been outperforming some of the other bigger sides in the Premier League this season, and given that we're nearly at the half point it can't be classed as a fluke now. They are contenders for a top six finish.

Whilst the majority of Southampton's signings have acclimatised easily to English football, they could still do with a central attacking player to play behind Graziano Pelle. The wide roles are sorted thanks to the additions of Dusan Tadic and Sadio Mane, whilst Jay Rodriguez is on his way back from a long-term injury.

Sneijder shows his class on a regular basis, with a perfect example being his two sublime strikes against Fenerbache in October. His creativity and goal scoring prowess would be a welcome sight in the Premier League.

Ronald Koeman is a Dutch great and Sneijder could be attracted by the chance to work under him. He can play in a wide variety of positions just as Lallana could, and with reports suggesting the 30-year-old could be available for £9 million, Southampton shouldn't hesitate at putting a bid in.
