Irvine drops hint over immediate future of £25m Tottenham linked Berahino

West Brom boss Alan Irvine says Tottenham Hotspur linked Saido Berahino is a key player for him over the rest of the season.

West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvince has dropped his biggest hint yet that the Baggies won’t be allowing Saido Berahino to leave the club next month.

The England striker has been heavily linked with a £25 million move to Tottenham Hotspur, but Irvine has shown no doubt over whether he’ll still be at the club beyond the January transfer window.

“Saido is going to be a really important player for us this season as he has been already,” Irvine told the Birmingham Mail.

Berahino already has seven Premier League goals to his name but his form has recently gone off the boil, which has placed him under pressure that he hasn’t had to deal with for most of this season.

He’s a top talent and because of that and the links to Tottenham, Irvine will have to regularly deal with questions over his future although he’s already shown how important he is for the Baggies this season.

He’s started 14 out of 16 Premier League games with three appearances and a goal from the club’s League Cup journey.

The games come thick and fast from Saturday because of the Christmas and New Year schedule.

Rather than preparing for the possibility of his exit, Irvine needs him as a valuable attacking option, which means if Tottenham are interested, they’ll have to wait until the summer before they can start realistically going after him.

By then things may have moved on and Tottenham may have followed through on their reported interest in another player.
