Tottenham Hotspur eased past Newcastle United in the quarter-finals of the League Cup on Wednesday, and club legend Gary Lineker was impressed.
The quarter-final tie at White Hart Lane was expected to be close and fiercely competitive, but it proved to be anything but.
Nabil Bentaleb put Spurs in the lead in the 18th minute, and Nacer Chadli doubled the advantage just a minute into the second half.
Harry Kane continued his impressive run of form and made it 3-0 with a left-footed shot on 65 minutes, and Spain international striker Roberto Soldado came off the bench to wrap up the victory with his side’s fourth goal just five minutes later.
The 4-0 victory margin seemed to have impressed Lineker, who made a rather amusing comment about his former club Tottenham.
Tottenham look like they might finally be turning a corner, having driven us around the bend all season.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) December 17, 2014
It is still early days to claim that Tottenham have turned the corner, but back-to-backs wins are certainly something to build on.
Victory over Newcastle means that Spurs are now into the semi-finals of the League Cup. The (realistic?) chance to win major silverware is alive.
