Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Benjamin Stambouli says the League Cup game against Newcastle United this evening is a chance for the side to get some revenge.
“We recently lost to Newcastle so this is a chance for revenge. We want to recover some pride after the last game against them, but we have a good chance to do well in this competition as well. I have a feeling we can do something special in this cup,” said Stambouli ahead of the game.
The clash this evening is arguably the pick of the quarter-finals between two very decent Premier League sides.
That’s something that Stambouli believes can be beneficial for the club and the fans as opposed to a potential banana skin type tie against a football league side, where all of the pressure would be on Tottenham.
“I think this will be a great match for us and for the fans. We'll be focused and we'll give ourselves the best chance we can of getting through to the next stage.”
Tottenham have suffered an inconsistent season so far as Mauricio Pochettino has settled in, attempting to brand his influence on the first team.
This is a great chance for Tottenham to move a little closer towards winning a piece of silverware, which would do wonders for the confidence of the side and the belief of fans that Pochettino is the right man to be moving the side forward.
It’s also a good chance for players like Stambouli to step up and make the most of an opportunity when they have found regular first team football difficult to come by so far this season.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has pledged a strong team for the game, but the Toon have been suffering from injuries and Tottenham will definitely be looking to make the home advantage count.
