Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has underlined the importance of a good League Cup run for his side.
The North London outfit will take on fellow Premier League side Newcastle United at White Hart Lane in the quarter-finals of the competition.
“It’s always important to go far in competitions because they give you confidence and belief,” The London Evening Standard quotes the 27-year-old as saying. “We have a great chance to get to the semi-finals and after that, everything is possible.
“We are in a good position but Newcastle are a team in form, so we are expecting a tough game. It’s an important match for the future of the season, and we are still positive because we are alive in all the competitions.”
The match against Newcastle could be defining for Tottenham’s season.
Spurs have had an inconsistent season so far, but they still have the chance to win at least two trophies.
The Europa League remains a possibility and so does the League Cup, while a place in the top four of the Premier League is very much in sight.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that he is going to take the tie against Newcastle seriously, and he, too, seems to understand the significance of this game.
Winning against Newcastle and progressing to the semi-finals will be special for Tottenham and make sure that the players have something to look forward to.
Spurs’ main objective is to qualify for next season’s Champions League, but winning the League Cup will still be a success.
