Hull City could make an ambitious bid to sign Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole in the January transfer window, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph.
Steve Bruce wants to sign a number of players at the next available opportunity as he looks to bring in the quality needed to help his team avoid the drop.
The Tigers are currently in the bottom three and they realise that an injection of class may be required to push them up the table.
Cattermole's discipline and combativeness in the centre of the park is something which Bruce reportedly feels could be vital to his side's game, but convincing him to leave the North East could be difficult.
The 26-year-old is one of Sunderland's key players and has developed hugely under Gus Poyet. Indeed, the Black Cats are even in talks over an improved deal.
That has still not put Bruce off, though, it would seem and it is a show of ambition from Hull that they are contemplating the possibility of acquiring one of their Premier League rival's main stars.
Hull are also thought to be looking into the possibility of buying Tottenham Hotspur's Aaron Lennon and Marseille's Andre Ayew.
