‘I have to be ready’ – Chelsea's Kurt Zouma speaks before likely start against Derby

Stamford Bridge

Prior to Chelsea's League Cup clash with Derby County, Kurt Zouma has talked about what Jose Mourinho has told him to do.

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has been speaking ahead of Chelsea’s match against Derby County in the League Cup.

The two sides face off in the quarter-final of the competition with the Blues heavy favourites to progress and the Rams keen to put their weekend defeat to Middlesbrough behind them.

Zouma is likely to feature for Chelsea having played the previous ties against Bolton Wanderers and Shrewsbury Town.

The 20-year-old has made a total of seven appearances for Chelsea so far this season and while he has to be patient due to the presence of John Terry and Gary Cahill, the young Frenchman knows he must be ready whenever he is called upon.

In an interview with Chelsea’s official website, Zouma said, “The coach told me that I need to keep working hard and I do this. Whenever he gives me a chance I have to be ready.”

Not that tonight’s match against Derby will be easy; something Zouma is well aware of.

“We will have to be strong,” he added. “We want to keep winning.”

At this rate, and with the players at Jose Mourinho’s disposal, few would bet against them doing just that.
