Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp has offered up some advice to first team boss Brendan Rodgers; ‘ride the storm’.
Rodgers is under extreme pressure as he’s experiencing a completely different season and challenge to the one he enjoyed last season.
Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester United last weekend has left the side lingering in the bottom half of the table and Redknapp has suggested the best approach for the boss is to get his head down and grind out some results.
“A few months ago Brendan was manager of the year and now look at the pressure he is under,” Redknapp told the Liverpool Echo.
“I don’t think they should change him. That would be madness. I like Brendan, I think he is good. But he has made mistakes this season and he is suffering for them.”
“It’s been humbling for him. He just needs to ride the storm but there will be no bigger test than this one here.”
There has been speculation and reports that Liverpool’s owners have already tried to remove Rodgers from his position.
However, that would be a bad move in the middle of the season, especially with such an important Christmas and New Year period in front of the club.
No one will be more determined to turnaround results than Rodgers and he’ll be searching for the right combination of players to get the right results and to encourage the side to move forward.
Liverpool haven’t been helped by injuries and January represents a chance for the boss to improve things further in terms of his squad if he feels he needs more options.
The components are there for Liverpool to salvage something from a difficult season so far.
The team stands a good chance of silverware on multiple fronts and the Europa League represents an opportunity for the team to get a place back in the Champions League, with a top four spot looking unlikely.
