Slovakia international Vladimir Weiss seemingly channelled the spirit of Diego Maradona himself after scoring sensational solo goal for Lekhwiya.
Once considered one of the best young prospects at Manchester City, Vladimir Weiss went some way to demonstrating why he is still highly regarded by fans of both the Sky Blues and Glasgow Rangers with a sensational goal last weekend.
The Slovakian winger spent a season on loan at Ibrox from City, helping the Gers capture a Scottish Premier League and League Cup double during his temporary stay.
Part of the City side that claimed the 2008 Youth Cup, the arrival of the Abu Dhabi Group at the club ended Weiss’s hopes of establishing himself in the first-team, with the 25-year-old embarking on a series of spells abroad.
Previously on the books at Espanyol, Pescara and Olympiacos, Weiss can now be found plying his trade in the Qatar Stars League with Lekhwiya, having signed for the club in the summer of 2013.
Still a regular for Slovakia at international level, Weiss looks on course to play at Euro 2016 with the national side currently topping their qualification group ahead of Spain, following an unbeaten start to the campaign.
The tricky 25-year-old has been a key part of that success and this weekend showcased why he may well be wasting his talents in the less-than-competitive football hotbed of Qatar.
With 14 minutes left and Lekhwiya already 2-0 up on hosts Qatar SC, Weiss cut inside on a mazy run that saw him beat four defenders and the goalkeeper before slotting home in true Diego Maradona style.
He may have failed to settle at either City or Rangers but on the basis of this goal alone, the Premier League would have the midfielder back in a heartbeat.
