Crystal Palace are not in a position to take chances at the moment, and they are not doing so with Joe Ledley’s fitness.
The Wales international has been nursing a niggling injury which is proving difficult to shake.
As a result, he is being excused from training on certain days in effort to get him the required amount of rest.
Breaks during the week are helping to get him into Premier League action, but he is requiring careful management from Palace’s coaching and medical staff.
He admits the problem, which appeared during the warm-up prior to a meeting with West Ham United, is proving to be a nuisance, but he is prepared to do whatever is necessary for the good of the Eagles cause.
Ledley told the Croydon Advertiser: “It’s a little bit of a pelvis sort of thing, going into the groin area.
“It’s just about managing it over the next couple of days and not training every day and giving it a rest to calm it down and then going again.
“I just don’t think I need to train every single day, it’s just more rest with myself. It is inflamed so the best thing to do is rest and make sure it looks after itself.
“We have managed it brilliantly and I’ve been fit for games.”
Ledley is an important part of Neil Warnock’s plans alongside Mile Jedinak and James McArthur in the middle of the park.
He has managed 12 top-flight appearances this season, netting one goal.
Palace are hoping that there will be many more to come and that the former Cardiff City and Celtic man can shake the complaint without the need for surgery.
