Chelsea loan round-up: Two youngsters score; Piazon struggling for minutes

A round-up of how Chelsea’s loan stars got on at the weekend.

Chelsea’s first-team won 2-0 at Hull City on Saturday with Eden Hazard and Diego Costa the goal-scoring heroes. But while Jose Mourinho’s senior stars continued their fine start to a campaign many are tipping to end with Premier League glory, the Blues had a number of loan stars in action, too.

Here we take a look at how some of Chelsea’s younger players got on at the weekend.

Josh McEachran and Bertrand Traore – Vitesse Arnhem

Vitesse Arnhem drew 1-1 at Groningen on Sunday with Chelsea’s Bertrand Traore scoring for the visitors.

The attacking midfielder spent the last league match on the bench but he started at the weekend – along with fellow Blues midfielder Josh McEachran – and subsequently scored his fourth goal of the season.

Patrick Bamford and Kenneth Omeruo – Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough followed up their 5-1 win against Millwall with a 2-0 victory against Derby County on Saturday.

Patrick Bamford opened the scoring, netting his sixth goal in his last seven appearances and suggesting he could have a bright future at Chelsea given his age and his ability, but defender Kenneth Omeruo spent the match on the bench.

Oriol Romeu – Stuttgart

Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu started for Stuttgart against Mainz on Saturday, one week after coming on against FC Schalke and helping to stem the tide after they had rushed into a 3-0 lead in his absence.

This time Romeu started the match but was substituted shortly before the hour-mark with Stuttgart 1-0 down, although they would ultimately go on to draw 1-1.

Thorgan Hazard – Borussia Monchengladbach

A week after scoring his first goal for Borussia Monchengladbach, Thorgan Hazard was integral in the German side’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.

Eden Hazard’s younger brother provided the assist for Roel Brouwers to equalise in a match that finished 1-1.

Lucas Piazon – Eintracht Frankfurt

Lucas Piazon was tipped by some to feature for Chelsea this season after his fantastic early form at Vitesse Arnhem. But the Brazilian is now with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he continues to struggle for game-time.

He started Friday’s match against Hoffenheim on the bench but was introduced in the 75th minute of a 3-2 defeat.
