London-based duo Christian Eriksen and Stewart Downing were both in action at the weekend – but which player comes out on top as HITC’s London-based most impressive away-day playmaker?
According to the table provided by Opta Stats, both players were in excellent form as they helped their respective teams to positive results on the road.
The Hammers found themselves behind on 22 minutes as Jordi Gomez fired in a penalty for the hosts but the visitors quickly responded as Stewart Downing continued his impressive campaign with another strike.
Aside from his equaliser, the former Aston Villa man was superb throughout as he took two shots on goal and created five chances for his teammates by way of key passes.
Likewise, Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen was in top form as he helped Spurs claim a valuable three points with an impressive 2-1 victory at Swansea City.
The Danish international dazzled as he drifted in off the left flank, taking two shots, creating three chances and scoring the White Hart Lane outfit’s winner with only a matter of minutes remaining on the clock.
In possession, the former Ajax ace was the focal point of Mauricio Pochettino’s side, taking 75 touches and completing 41 of his intended 50 passes – an 82% success rate.
Downing, despite not being as involved as Eriksen, was more reliable and consistent with his passing for the Hammers, completing 33 from an attempted 38 which amounts to an 86.8% success rate.
These two players have been in fabulous form this season and are already a shoe-in to win each clubs’ respective Player of the Year awards should performances of this ilk continue.
For now, however, only one player can be HITC’s London-based away-day playmaker of the weekend and after an extremely tough decision that honour goes to Stewart Downing for his all-round proficient display.
