Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray has played down speculation linking him with a move away from the club in the January transfer window.
The 18-year-old’s performances this season have attracted the interest of a number of clubs, including Premier League trio Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
England Under-19 international Gray has scored four goals and created 14 chances in 16 Championship appearances, while having a pass accuracy of 78% and a shot accuracy of 56%.
Three of those goals came in the 6-1 home win against Reading on Saturday, leading to more suggestions that Newcastle and Tottenham could swoop in for him next month.
Gray, though, is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and is quoted as saying by The Birmingham Mail: “I have had a bit already but I don’t really let that worry me or play on my mind.
“I just concentrate on playing my football where I am right now and I am happy. It could get on your shoulders but I have got good people around me.
“I speak to the right people and they basically told me not to watch any of that stuff and to just concentrate on what I am doing.”
While a move to Newcastle, Tottenham or Liverpool will be tempting for anyone playing in the Championship, perhaps it would be best for Gray if he remains at Birmingham until the end of the season at least.
The teenager is only just coming to the fore and is playing regularly. A move in the middle of the season is going to impede his development, especially as he is not going to get much playing time in any of the Premier League teams reportedly interested in him.
