Derby County defender Richard Keogh has warned Chelsea that they are determined to win the League Cup tie on Tuesday.
A 2-0 defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road was followed by a 3-0 home win against Brighton & Hove Albion, but on Saturday Steve McClaren’s side went down 2-0 at Middlesborough.
Even though Derby are at home for Tuesday’s match, Chelsea will be favourites - for obvious reasons - but Keogh insists that he and his teammates have what it takes to win against the Premier League leaders.
Keogh: "We could have played better on Saturday and we were disappointed to lose. Sometimes games like that happen - we will bounce back"— Derby County (@dcfcofficial) December 15, 2014
Keogh: "It's great to play @chelseafc and be at home. It's going to be a real challenge. We want to enjoy the occasion and take on the best"— Derby County (@dcfcofficial) December 15, 2014
Keogh: "@chelseafc are a world class team with world class players. You strive to play against the best and this is our chance"— Derby County (@dcfcofficial) December 15, 2014
Keogh: "I missed last season's game so I am excited to be part of the build up for this one. I really can't wait for it"— Derby County (@dcfcofficial) December 15, 2014
One suspects that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will not play his best players against Derby, but even then the Blues will be the stronger team.
Currently third in the Championship table, the Rams will certainly be looking to take the scalp of Chelsea. It will be tough, but it is not impossible.
