Mike Williamson reveals Pardew's stern words after Arsenal defeat

The Newcastle United boss told his players they weren't good enough following their 4-1 defeat to the Gunners.

Alan Pardew did not shy away from criticising his Newcastle players after their 4-1 loss to Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

That's according to Newcastle defender Mike Williamson, who revealed that his manager was far from complimentary to the Magpies after the game.

And the centre-back admits it was the manner of Newcastle's performance against Arsenal that disappointed both Pardew and the players themselves.

“I don’t think it was about our energy levels or our character," Williamson told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle. "It was about the quality. Individually and collectively, we didn’t reach the standards we did last week. That was the frustrating part.

“The manager said after the game that you can’t expect to turn up and put a display on like we did and expect to win.

“It was a hard one to take. It’s a tough place to come and we felt we didn’t perform to the level we did last week against Chelsea.

“That was the frustrating part for us. Arsenal are a fantastic team and fantastic individuals regardless of what XI they put out.“It was a difficult night for us.”
