Liverpool were drawn against a side that has been a handful for both Tottenham and Arsenal this season - and will face a familiar foe in the form of former Chelsea, Newcastle and West Ham striker Demba Ba.
The Turkish side ran Arsenal close in the qualifying stages of the Champions League this season but were knocked out, and finished above Tottenham in their Europa League group.
The first leg will be at Anfield on February 19 before the return leg in Istanbul on February 26. The tie has a few stories to it, with the Reds returning to the scene of arguably the greatest triumph in the club's history at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium.
The last time the two met was in November 2007, when the Reds ran riot in a 8-0 win at Anfield on their way to the semi-finals of that season's competition.
They are expecting a tougher game this time around with Demba Ba leading the attack, and everyone knows the impact he had on ending the Reds' Premier League title challenge last season, and will have to be on their guard to stop any kind of repeat in Europe.
Here is what a few fans had to say about the draw. Some are anticipating a more difficult two-legged affair, but given the Reds are now amongst the favourites to lift the prize in Warsaw in May, the Reds are expected to qualify for the next round.
Should beat Besiktas over 2 legs comfortably. Think we a genuine good chance of winning this. 2001 cup treble anyone? #LFC— James Cleary (@JamesCleary96) December 15, 2014
We'll take Besiktas! Not the most friendly, but we've avoided the likes of Napoli, Zenit, Inter, Fiorentina, Sevilla and 'Gladbach.— Luke Powell (@LukePowell_96) December 15, 2014
Besiktas won't be easy, but if We've any ambition at all, We should be beating them over 2 legs!— JFT96 (@NBoycott) December 15, 2014
Hopefully Besiktas will knock us out. Can't be bothered for the EUROPA league— Angus (@anguslfc) December 15, 2014
Besiktas are one of the hardest teams we could have got in the draw tbh #LFC— Dan Bartlett (@dan1bartlett) December 15, 2014
Besiktas ey? Interesting... Let's hope there's some firepower by then or just chuck the youngsters in!! No fear! #LFC— Dan Bowen (@DanBows7) December 15, 2014
