Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez has said that he and his teammates are determined to win the League Cup quarter-final tie against Tottenham Hotspur away from home on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old, who joined the Magpies from Spanish club Tenerife in the summer transfer window, has fond memories of White Hart Lane.
It was at that venue that Perez scored his goal for Newcastle. It came in a 2-1 win in the Premier League, and the youngster is targeting a repeat of the heroics of that day.
“Everything started there – I scored my first goal there – and we are going there to try to win the game,” The Sunderland Echo quotes him as saying.
It will not be easy for Newcastle, though, as Tottenham appear to have regained their confidence and are looking to put together a run of positive results.
The North London outfit registered their first win of the month on Sunday when they edged past Swansea City 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has already said that he is taking the League Cup seriously, and one suspects that he will field the best available players against Newcastle on Wednesday.
