Manchester United player ratings: De Gea 10/10, Valencia & Carrick impress

Liverpool made it easy for them... but Manchester United did the business at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Here's how the players rated:

David De Gea - 10/10

He may have been helped by some poor finishing but there is nothing the Manchester United goalkeeper cannot save right now.

Phil Jones - 7/10

Dealt with whatever was thrown at him by a hapless Liverpool front line.

Michael Carrick - 8/10

A calming presence, Carrick looks more natural in defence than most of United's first-choice defenders!

Jonny Evans - 6.5/10

Slightly less convincing than some of his counterparts but did his job as Louis van Gaal's men kept a deserved clean sheet.

Antonio Valencia - 8/10

Partly a reflection of how bad Liverpool were, partly a reflection of Valencia's impressive display this afternoon, the 29-year-old made Alberto Moreno and co look like Sunday League defenders.

Marouane Fellaini - 7/10

A quieter day than usual for the Belgian - but because that's exactly what was needed of him. The Manchester United midfielder broke Liverpool attacks down aplenty.

Ashley Young - 6/10

Glenn Hoddle singled the United man out for criticism before the game and, in Young's defence, he didn't let his side down especially. This was an average performance from him, though.

Juan Mata - 6.5/10

Offside for his goal but did well to beat his markers regardless.

Wayne Rooney - 7.5/10

Liverpool made it easy for him but the United skipper needed no second chance to open the scoring and otherwise impress.

Robin van Persie - 6.5/10

Quiet in patches but got on the scoresheet by the end.

James WIlson - 6/10

The young forward didn't make too much of an impact but no doubt aided his side's attacking intent.

Ander Herrera, Radamel Falcao and Paddy McNair all came on late in the game when the result was already beyond doubt.
