Manchester United fans react on Twitter to Michael Carrick performance v Liverpool

Michael Carrick

The England midfielder was excellent at centre-back once again.

Manchester United defeated Liverpool today 3-0 with goalkeeper David De Gea receiving many of the plaudits for a stunning performance.

Of course there were plenty of other excellent performances from the team, including that of Michael Carrick. The defensive midfielder was once again implemented in a back-three where he has been something of a revelation for Louis van Gaal.

Marcos Rojo was ruled out just before the game after picking up a niggle in training on Friday. So Carrick was the focal point of a back three alongside Phil Jones and Jonny Evans.

While on the defensive side of things he certainly needs to do better, especially when it comes to allowing players to run in behind him, he has proven himself to be an excellent composed ball-playing central defender, just what Van Gaal likes in a defender.

Carrick's return to action from injury has coincided with United's excellent form. Six wins in six games since he returned to action can certainly not be a coincidence.

If he keeps up this type of form, he may not play in the Manchester United midfield for a very long time. He even ended up the game as captain.

Here is some of the best reaction from Twitter to his overshadowed performance at Old Trafford this afternoon...
