Liverpool lost 3-0 to Manchester United on Sunday but what did Reds fans make of Philippe Coutinho's performance?

Liverpool suffered a 3-0 defeat against Manchester United on Sunday, with the hosts securing their victory courtesy of goals from Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Robin van Persie.

Brendan Rodgers' side would have been hoping to put their Champions League disappointment behind them but instead failed to get the rub of the green, losing a match they would have felt they deserved more from.

Liverpool had almost twice as many goal-scoring chances as their hosts but some poor finishing and some outstanding goalkeeping from David de Gea kept the Reds at bay.

One player who would have been hoping to influence the match more than he managed was Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian international had a 77 per cent passing accuracy and went on some electrifying dribbles that prompted United's players to foul him and get booked as a result, but the play-maker managed just one key pass and failed to have a shot of his own.

On his day Coutinho is simply outstanding but Liverpool fans have not seen that as much as they would have hoped.

After the match we took to Twitter to see what supporters made of the 22-year-old's performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
