Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle believes that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been lucky over the last few games.
Writing in The Daily Mail, the Queens Park Rangers coach explained: “Graham Taylor once talked about how Napoleon had said he preferred lucky generals over clever ones.
“I think Van Gaal will realise that he’s been fortunate so far in his Premier League season to be in third place having played so poorly. But having got the team into that position he must now feel confident.
“He knows he has players coming back, he will have a stronger defence in the second half of the season and Manchester United are likely to get better.”
United are on a five-game winning run in the Premier League and they have had some luck along the way, especially in the game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last month.
However, credit must be given to Van Gaal and his players for getting stuck in and getting the results without playing exceptionally well.
Today, United will host Liverpool at Old Trafford. Heading into the Premier League encounter, the Red Devils find themselves third in the standings with 28 points from 15 matches.
That's not entirely luck, is it?
