Chelsea returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Hull City yesterday.
The Blues have started the season in terrific fashion, winning 12 of their 16 matches to date and holding a three-point lead over title challengers Manchester City.
At home, Jose Mourinho’s side have been perfect, boasting a 100% record and extending their winning run to eight matches with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Hull City.
On the road, however, the fluency and control has dipped recently and just one win in the last four games away from Stamford Bridge suggest that there are a number of areas for improvement.
The old saying of win your home games and draw away may have been good enough for the title in the previous two-point system, but nowadays this mentality would on wield a top0three spot at best.
Speaking before the victory over the Tigers, Ivanovic has called on his teammates to replicate their home form on the road or risk losing out on the title.
“That is one of the most important things if you want to be champions: winning your home games,” Ivanovic told the club’s official website.
“We do tend to play very well at home but if you want to win the league you need to win a lot of matches away from home as well.
“At Stamford Bridge we are always confident but you also need to pick up points when it’s a battle, a physical match away from home.”
Up next in the league for Mourinho’s side is a trip to the Britannia Stadium to face a Stoke City side renowned for putting up a battle against the league’s best.
The Blues have only won one of their last four matches away at the Potters, with the most recent fixture in Staffordshire ending 3-2 to the home side.
