Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that injured duo Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny are out for up to three weeks and will miss next week’s clash against Liverpool.
The duo were absent from the team’s 4-1 thrashing over Newcastle United on Saturday as the Gunners’ long list of injuries appears to be growing.
It has been a tough season on the injury front so far for the Emirates outfit, and Wenger has been forced to make-do with his depleted squad on a number of occasions.
Koscielny, widely regarded as the club’s leading centre-back, has spent the majority of this season on the sidelines and despite a recent return to action, he has again fallen victim to a niggling injury.
Ramsey, on the other hand, has been a consistent player for the Gunners this season, but doubts were cast over his fitness following his withdrawal for a reported hamstring injury in midweek.
The Welsh international is said to have sent a text to Wenger to update him of his struggles, and amid the uncertainty the French boss briefly revealed the extent of his injury by ruling him out for a few weeks.
“I have a better idea. Ramsey will be out for a few weeks and Koscielny as well. They will not be back next week,” Wenger was quoted as saying by Arsenal.com.
The duo are likely to miss the busy festive period consisting of crucial away fixtures at fellow top four hopefuls Liverpool, Southampton and West Ham United.
With Francis Coquelin returning from a loan spell at Charlton and featuring in the victory over Newcastle, it appears that Wenger’s first-team squad is now down to the bare bones.
