Southampton's poor form continued on Saturday when they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of a resurgent Burnley, with Ashley Barnes netting the winner with just 17 minutes of normal-time to play.
The victory was Burnley's third of the campaign while Southampton suffered their fourth straight defeat after losing to Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United in recent weeks.
Southampton had a late chance to equalise when midfielder Victor Wanyama headed over rather than in, but the Kenyan midfielder had plenty to be proud of, despite his late miss.
Wanyama recently went toe-to-toe with City's Yaya Toure and did not look out of place, and again at the weekend the young Saints midfielder put in a stellar performance.
He won 20 battles in total (12 ground duels and eight aerial duels) while he also made two effective clearances, won two tackles and made one interception.

The Southampton star also had two attempts on goal but neither troubled the goalkeeper and that is an area of his game he will no doubt want to work on in the years ahead.
But while fellow midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin gets most of the plaudits, Wanyama continues to impress for Southampton and he could finally be on the way to fulfilling his considerable potential.
