Rival manager wants to face Liverpool in Europa League

Beskitas boss Slaven Bilic is dreaming of a Europa League last-32 clash with Liverpool.

Following Liverpool’s Champions League exit, the Reds have become a catch for a number of European outfits who fancy their chances in a last-32 Europa League tie.

Brendan Rodgers’s men had fate in their own hands as they hosted Swiss champions Basel in a do-or-die final Champions League group stage clash at Anfield.

Win and they were through, anything less and it was the daunting task of a potential long Europa League campaign.

In a game of twists and turns, the Merseysiders were held to a 1-1 draw and ultimately finished 3rd in their group, thus entering the draw for the final 32 in Europe’s second competition.

It was a disappointing ending for the Anfield outfit, but their exit has caused somewhat of a stir across the continent as they have now become an exciting proposition for a number of clubs seeking a glamour tie.

Among those is Slaven Bilic’s Besiktas side, and the former West Ham United star has already begun dreaming of a quick return to the Premier League as he makes no secret of his desired opponents.

“I would love to play Liverpool in the next round,” Bilic was quoted as saying by Turkish-football. “It would be a great game between two sets of fantastic fans.”

The Turkish outfit have already played Premier League opposition this season, losing to Arsenal in the Champions League qualifiers before advancing with Tottenham Hotspur to the Europa League knockout stages.

They have proven to be a difficult opponent and one which would make life very difficult for the Reds should the two be pitted against each other when the draw comes out on Monday.
