Chelsea fans participating on an online poll have voted in favour of left-back Filipe Luis gaining more game time at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian international joined the Blues from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid in the summer for a reported £15.8 million fee, citing it as a dream move on arrival.
His arrival in West London coincided with a summer raid on Los Colchoneros as Diego Costa and loanee Thibaut Courtois also moved to Stamford Bridge.
While the latter two have become established first-teamer, taking to life in the Premier League with ease, the same can’t be said about Luis who has struggled to make an impact thus far.
As a result of Jose Mourinho’s preference of a consistent back four, Cesar Azpilicueta has held down the regular left-back spot and limiting Luis to just three Premier League starts all season.
The 29-year-old, however, isn’t without his backers from the Stamford Bridge faithful and in an online poll conducted by The Mirror, 70% of the participants voted in favour of giving him more game time.
Those that voted in favour were seemingly granted their wish this weekend as Luis started in favour of Azpilicueta for the visit of Premier League strugglers Hull City.
The former Deportivo La Coruna star put in a solid shift defensively, contributing with a total of three tackles and three interceptions.
His biggest qualities, however, are driving forward from deep and supplying accurate crosses for the strikers, a role which he may struggle to apply given Eden Hazard’s influence down the left flank.
